Proscalpin: Clinically Proven Hair Regrowth Treatment
Proscalpin is a prescription medication specifically formulated to address androgenetic alopecia in men. Its active ingredient, finasteride, is a well-researched 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that targets the primary hormonal cause of pattern hair loss. By systematically reducing scalp dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, Proscalpin helps halt follicular miniaturization and promotes the regrowth of terminal hair. This treatment is intended for long-term use under medical supervision to achieve and maintain optimal results.
Features
- Contains 1mg of finasteride per oral tablet
- Selective Type II 5-alpha-reductase enzyme inhibition
- Once-daily oral dosing regimen
- Manufactured under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
- Bioequivalent to the brand-name formulation
Benefits
- Effectively slows the progression of male pattern hair loss by addressing its root hormonal cause.
- Promotes visible hair regrowth in a significant proportion of users, particularly at the vertex and mid-scalp areas.
- Helps improve hair density and overall coverage, which can enhance self-image and confidence.
- Offers a convenient, non-surgical, and evidence-based approach to managing androgenetic alopecia.
- Supported by extensive long-term clinical studies demonstrating sustained efficacy and safety profiles.
Common use
Proscalpin is indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in men only. It is prescribed for adult men experiencing mild to moderate hair loss at the vertex and anterior mid-scalp area. Treatment is most effective for individuals who initiate therapy early in the hair loss process. It is not indicated for use by women or children.
Dosage and direction
The recommended dosage is one 1mg tablet administered orally once daily, with or without food. For optimal absorption, it is advisable to take the tablet at approximately the same time each day. Clinical response may not be evident for at least three months, and continued use is generally necessary to sustain benefits. Discontinuation of treatment typically leads to a reversal of effect within 12 months.
Precautions
Prior to initiation, a proper diagnosis of androgenetic alopecia should be confirmed. Patients should be informed that decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders are known potential side effects, which may persist after discontinuation in some cases. Caution is advised in patients with liver function abnormalities. Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not handle crushed or broken tablets due to the risk of absorption and potential teratogenic effects on a male fetus.
Contraindications
Proscalpin is contraindicated in the following populations: women who are pregnant or may become pregnant; pediatric patients; and patients with hypersensitivity to finasteride or any component of the formulation. It is also contraindicated for use in the treatment of hair loss in women.
Possible side effects
The majority of adverse reactions are sexual in nature and include: decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorder (e.g., decreased ejaculate volume). These side effects occurred in a small percentage of men in clinical trials and were reversible upon discontinuation in most, but not all, men. Other less common side effects may include breast tenderness and enlargement, rash, and testicular pain. Allergic reactions, including lip swelling and skin rash, have been reported.
Drug interaction
Although no specific drug interactions of clinical importance have been identified, caution is advised when administering Proscalpin concurrently with other medications that are extensively metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme system. Always inform your healthcare provider of all prescription, non-prescription, and herbal products you are taking.
Missed dose
If a dose is missed, it should be skipped and the next dose taken at the regular scheduled time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Maintaining a consistent daily routine is recommended for optimal efficacy.
Overdose
In the event of a suspected overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be instituted. Single doses of finasteride up to 400 mg and multiple doses up to 80 mg/day for three months have been administered without adverse effect. There is no specific antidote for finasteride overdose.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Excursions are permitted between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Keep the tablets in their original blister packaging to protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

No side effects to report.” – D.P., 41 “As a clinician, I prescribe finasteride for suitable candidates. Proscalpin provides a cost-effective, generic alternative that is bioequivalent to the brand, making long-term therapy more accessible for my patients.” – Dr. A. Evans, Dermatologist
