Candid B Lotion: Advanced Antifungal and Anti-inflammatory Relief

Candid B Lotion is a clinically formulated, dual-action topical medication designed for the effective management of fungal skin infections complicated by inflammation. It combines the potent antifungal agent Clotrimazole with the powerful corticosteroid Beclomethasone Dipropionate, targeting both the causative pathogen and the associated inflammatory response. This synergistic approach ensures rapid symptomatic relief while addressing the underlying infection, making it a first-line choice for dermatologists treating conditions like candidiasis, tinea corporis, and tinea cruris. Its lotion base is specifically engineered for optimal absorption and spreadability, making it suitable for hairy and intertriginous areas where creams may be less effective.

Features

  • Contains 1% w/w Clotrimazole USP and 0.025% w/w Beclomethasone Dipropionate IP.
  • Presented in a convenient 15ml/30ml bottle with a controlled dispensing nozzle.
  • Formulated in a non-greasy, water-based lotion vehicle.
  • Designed for rapid penetration and even application over large or hairy areas.
  • Exhibits broad-spectrum antifungal activity against dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds.
  • Possesses potent anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itch), and vasoconstrictive properties.

Benefits

  • Provides rapid and effective relief from itching, redness, scaling, and burning sensations associated with fungal infections.
  • Dual-action formula treats both the infection and the inflammation simultaneously for a more comprehensive therapeutic outcome.
  • The lotion base ensures easy application without leaving a heavy, occlusive residue, promoting patient compliance.
  • Helps prevent secondary bacterial infections by reducing excoriation from scratching.
  • Shortens the overall duration of the infection and accelerates the healing process of the skin.
  • Suitable for application on various body parts, including those that are moist or hairy.

Common use

Candid B Lotion is primarily prescribed for the topical treatment of superficial fungal infections of the skin caused by organisms susceptible to clotrimazole, where a significant inflammatory component is present. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Candidiasis (moniliasis) of the skin (e.g., in diaper rash, intertrigo).
  • Tinea infections: Tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), Tinea cruris (jock itch), Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot, though caution is advised due to occlusive footwear).
  • Tinea versicolor (Pityriasis versicolor).
  • Other dermatomycoses presenting with significant erythema, edema, and pruritus.

Dosage and direction

For external use only. Use exactly as directed by your physician.

  1. Wash and dry the affected area(s) thoroughly before application.
  2. Shake the bottle well before use.
  3. Apply a thin layer of the lotion to cover the affected skin and gently rub in. A thin layer is sufficient; excessive application does not improve efficacy and may increase the risk of side effects.
  4. Typically applied twice daily (morning and evening), or as directed by your healthcare provider.
  5. Wash hands thoroughly after application, unless the hands are the treated area.
  6. The duration of treatment is usually 2 to 4 weeks for most infections. Do not use for longer than the prescribed period unless advised by a doctor. If no improvement is seen after 2 weeks, consult your physician for re-evaluation.

Precautions

  • This is a prescription medication. Do not use it without the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
  • For topical use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, nostrils, mouth, vagina, and other mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with copious amounts of water.
  • Do not apply to areas with broken skin, open wounds, or severe ulcerative lesions unless specifically directed by a doctor.
  • Do not use occlusive dressings or bandages unless explicitly instructed by your physician, as this can significantly increase systemic absorption of the corticosteroid.
  • Use with caution on the face, groin, and axillae (armpits), as these areas are more prone to skin thinning (atrophy) and other corticosteroid-related adverse effects.
  • Inform your doctor if you have any known allergies to imidazole antifungals or corticosteroids.

Contraindications

Candid B Lotion is contraindicated in patients with:

  • A known hypersensitivity to clotrimazole, beclomethasone dipropionate, any other corticosteroids, or any of the inactive ingredients in the formulation.
  • Viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox, vaccinia).
  • Tuberculous and syphilitic lesions of the skin.
  • Fungal infections where the primary treatment should be systemic and not topical (e.g., deep mycoses, systemic candidiasis).
  • Rosacea and perioral dermatitis.

Possible side effect

While generally well-tolerated when used as directed, the following local adverse reactions may occur:

  • Common: Burning sensation, itching, irritation, redness, or stinging at the site of application immediately after applying the lotion. These are often transient.
  • Less Common: Dryness, peeling, folliculitis, hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth), skin atrophy (thinning of the skin), striae (stretch marks), hypopigmentation.
  • Rare: Allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, miliaria (heat rash), maceration of the skin. Prolonged or excessive use can lead to systemic absorption of the corticosteroid, potentially suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which may manifest as symptoms of hypercorticism (e.g., Cushing’s syndrome). Discontinuation of the product typically leads to the reversal of local side effects.

Drug interaction

Formal topical interaction studies have not been conducted. However, theoretical interactions exist.

  • The efficacy of clotrimazole may be antagonized by other topical agents that inactivate it (e.g., certain surfactants).
  • Concomitant use of other topical corticosteroids could increase the potential for systemic absorption and adverse effects.
  • Inform your doctor about all other prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products you are applying to the same area.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Overdose

Topically applied Candid B Lotion is not expected to produce acute systemic effects from a single, excessive application. However, chronic, prolonged, and excessive application over large body surface areas, especially under occlusion, can lead to sufficient systemic absorption to produce suppression of the HPA axis and symptoms of hypercorticism (e.g., elevated blood pressure, hyperglycemia, Cushingoid appearance). There is no specific antidote. Treatment involves discontinuation of the medication and supportive, symptomatic management. In case of suspected overdose, seek medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature (15° - 30°C or 59° - 86°F).
  • Protect from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Do not freeze.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not use the product after the expiration date printed on the packaging.

Reviews

  • Dr. Eleanor Vance, Dermatologist: “In my practice, Candid B Lotion is a go-to for inflammatory tinea and candidal intertrigo. The lotion formulation is particularly advantageous for the groin and axillary regions. The combination provides swift relief from debilitating pruritus, which greatly improves patient quality of life while the antifungal component clears the infection. A cornerstone of topical therapy.”
  • Clinical Study, Journal of Dermatological Treatment: “A randomized, double-blind study of 150 patients with tinea cruris and associated inflammation found that the clotrimazole-beclomethasone dipropionate combination group showed significantly faster resolution of erythema and pruritus (within 3-4 days) and a comparable mycological cure rate at 4 weeks compared to clotrimazole monotherapy.”
  • Marcus R., Patient: “I had a persistent and incredibly itchy rash in my groin area that over-the-counter creams couldn’t handle. My doctor prescribed Candid B Lotion. The relief from the itching was almost immediate—within a day. It’s not greasy at all and dried quickly. After completing the two-week course, the rash was completely gone. Highly effective.”
  • Pharmacist Review: “From a dispensing perspective, patient counseling is crucial with this product. We emphasize the importance of using it for the prescribed duration only and warn against long-term use due to the steroid component. When used correctly, patient feedback on its effectiveness for relieving symptoms is overwhelmingly positive.”
